LIGHT HOUSE CINEMA BOOK CLUB

Like films? Like books? Like talking about films and books?

We've teamed up with Chapters Bookstore on Parnell St. to launch a cinema book club. Each month we'll pick a different book and film adaptation for discussion. Buy the book, read it, then come watch the film and discuss both afterwards in the bar.

Next up is THE HOURS

18:30 Tuesday 31 May 2016

Based on Michael Cunningham's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Hours tells the story of three women in different times, related only by a parallel in their personal lives. One, present day, throwing a party for a writer friend suffering from AIDS. Another living in 1949 Los Angeles, suffering as a young wife and mother. The last, Virginia Woolf, writing "Mrs. Dalloway" and contemplating suicide.

  • Read the book, then come watch the film with us and stay after for a fun and informal discussion comparing the two.
  • All welcome! You don't need to be a member, just come along and enjoy the screening. The post-screening discussion is optional.

Special Offer:

  • Go to Chapters Bookstore on Parnell St. and mention the Light House Cinema Book Club to get 10% off your copy, then join us at Light House Cinema to watch the film and discuss the (de)merits of each in the bar afterwards. If you show your Chapters receipt at Light House Cinema you get 10% off your ticket as well!
