      Our Story

The Light House Cinema re-opened its doors on the 20th of January 2012 under the management of Element Pictures. Since the cinema re-opened we have been heartened by the enthusiastic and positive response we have had from audiences who have returned in their droves. Having existed in a previous incarnation, our plan for the cinema is to slowly improve all elements, from food and drink in the café to launching a full bar, improving the ambience, adding more events and always delivering an eclectic programme of films and events.

We are keenly aware of the importance of carving out our ‘niche’ within the current cinema offering in Dublin, but we don’t see ourselves as a niche destination or brand. Our aim is to become a destination cinema in the minds of national & international visitors not just those in our immediate catchment area.

“ “Since its re-opening its gone from strength to strength…They always have a great selection of movies, a nice mix of art-house and classic cinema. I just really love this place and I'm so happy that they were able to re-open. It breathes new life and possibilities into Smithfield.””

“Best cinema in Dublin. Best selection of films, most comfortable, most aesthetically pleasing and most affordable to boot. Their membership schemes are super generous and they even have special screenings for parents with babies”

“A cinema that breaks from the mainstream mould. Cafe instead of a nachos and soft drink counter (you can still get popcorn though). Wide selection of bottled beers available. Frequent art installations to browse before heading to the film. Nice lounge area in which to chill out before/after a movie. Frequent "seasons" where the work of an actor/director will be celebrated and his/her movies played. Or sometimes an older movie will have its anniversary and will be replayed. It has funky decor and pleasant staff and I feel relaxed when I go there.”

“My favourite cinema in Dublin - it's modern, cozy, usually not too crowded, very clean, comfortable seats and cheaper tickets. They have a great selection of films and also show other on-screen events (dramas, operas, ballets). Seats are usually unreserved so it's good to come a bit earlier to catch a good seat. 😊 Love it!”
