Synopsis
Action sci-fi satire Starship Troopers is a hell of a good time on the big screen. Dutch filmmaker, Paul Verhoeven, is never one to shy away from controversial territory so his decision to turn Robert A Heinlen's notoriously pro-military book, Starship Troopers, into a decidedly anti-propaganda, anti-military satire in the late 1990's was a very tantalising one. The book and film have very different takes on the story and raise some very interesting questions about perspectives in storytelling and how intention can inform content.
Cinema Book Club selects the best (and worst!) screen adaptations to watch and discuss in our unique book-to-screen club. Each month we'll pick a different book and film for discussion. Read the book, then join us for the film and a discussion afterwards in the bar. No need to join, just show up on the night and join in. Everyone is welcome, even if you haven’t read the book!Cinema Book Club: Starship Troopers Showtimes
