How Tanita Tikaram Became a Liar + In Person Q&ACLUB 18+53 min
Synopsis
In this intimate and unconventional anti-documentary, filmmaker Natacha Horn turns the camera towards acclaimed musician Tanita Tikaram, crafting a portrait that resists linear biography in favour of something more fragmentary, reflective, and defiantly personal.
Unfolding through Tikaram’s own voice as she reflects on fame, identity, and growing up as a brown, queer woman in the UK the film also examines the pressures of early success - after her debut Ancient Heart became a global hit - and the distortion of public narratives. Closely tied to her latest album LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right), at once political and deeply personal, centring truth, authorship, and belonging, it's less a film about who Tikaram was than a reclamation of who she is - on her own terms, in her own words.
