Grand Theft Hamlet at Pálás
On Monday December 9th, KinoGames & Pálás present a screening and Q&A of the highly original documentary, Grand Theft Hamlet.
In 2021, as the pandemic dragged on, theatre actors Sam and Mark spent their days in the online world of Grand Theft Auto, when they suddenly had an idea to stage a full production of Hamlet within the game. This SXSW and Sitges award-winning film charts their ridiculous, hilarious and moving adventure as they battle violent griefers and discover surprising truths about life, friendship and the enduring power of Shakespeare.
The screening will be followed by a live, virtual Q+A with the filmmakers, and moderated by Dr Abby Rekas, a lecturer in Law & Innovation at the University of Galway, whose research focuses on video game archiving and preservation, copyright and access to culture, and AI.
