Mockumentary Now Season at Light House
“What day did the Lord create Spinal Tap, and couldn't he have rested on that day too?”We’re celebrating the return of Spinal Tap this September with just a small selection from the vast universe of fictional documentaries, or “Mockumentaries”, as coined by Rob Reiner in the 90s. It’s Mockumentary NOW!
Mockumentary Now is almost exclusively a love letter to Christopher Guest, Catherine O’ Hara, Parker Posey and company, but we just couldn’t resist bringing two of the funniest examples of fictional documentary filmmaking back to the big screen before the Summer ends. DROP DEAD GORGEOUS and POP STAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING have achieved icon status since their respective releases and are ready for your full appreciation on the glorious screens of the Light House.
Where would we be without Guest and co - THIS IS SPINAL TAP wasn’t the first mockumentary, but it is the King of the druids, the Queen of Stone’enge and the template for all that have followed. It returns to the big screen for its 41st anniversary (Beautiful restored in 4K) and will screen for two days only on Aug 23rd and 24th.
Enjoy the sounds of Mitch & Mickey, The New Main Street Singers and The Folksmen in the joyous and soulful A MIGHTY WIND, which screens on Aug 31 from a stunning 35mm print. We take a trip to the Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show alongside its human and canine contenders in what is just a pitch perfect comedy - BEST IN SHOW screens on Aug 28 (Don’t forget Busy Bee!). Finally, we’re WAITING FOR GUFFMAN along with Corky St. Clair and the cast of Red, White and Blaine on Sept 7.
So, six of the best to see out the Summer and get us ready to welcome back, live, from the gates of hell – Nigel Tufnel, Derek Smalls and David St. Hubbins in SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES. Screening from September 12.
