LIGHT HOUSE AND PÁLÁS SCORE BUSIEST WEEK ON RECORD

Light House Group smash records, as Barbie smashes the patriarchy.

Box office high... Barbie! Thanks to the already iconic double header of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Light House Dublin and Pálás Galway have both scored their busiest week on record with sold out screens across the board. Light House welcomed 10,593 film fans, with Pálás seeing 4698 customers over the threshold!

With screen averages for Barbie in ROI hitting €26,057 and €14,650 for Oppenheimer, Light House managed to double that, whilst also taking the #1 spot for the top performing site in UK and Ireland for Oppenheimer on 35mm, and landing in the Irish top ten for Barbie.

Highlights from the opening weekend included the first public screenings of Oppenheimer at midnight, and Breakfast with Barbie at 8AM on Friday morning, Beach Parties, Drag Bingo, Barbenheimer cupcakes and cocktails and an incredibly busy buggy valet service as both venues saw Parents and Babies flock to see Margot Robbie as the famed doll. Galway Girl Nicola Coughlan made it a family affair and popped in to Pálás on Sunday to see herself on the big screen. Weekend number 2 was just as action packed with Big-Screen Karaoke and a Swap Shop in Light House while Pálás welcomed some canine companions for a Dog Friendly Screening of Barbie!

Barbies were ready to party! Custom cocktails proved to be as popular as popcorn with The Margot-rita selling just as well as the traditional cinema snack.

The public took heightened the idea of the double billing, getting into character with outfits honouring either or both films, which really added to the sense of occasion, Alice Black Head of Programming notes “Whether it was staying up past midnight to see the first 35mm Oppenheimer or getting up at 8am for a Barbie breakfast or digging something pink out of the back of the closet, our customers and staff embraced these two films with gusto! The sense of occasion was palpable in both our cinemas this weekend. This weekend reminded everyone of the pure joy of going to the movies!”

Light House and Pálás want to thank all staff and audiences for coming out in force and making the cultural phenomenon that is Barbenheimer the busiest and best week in 11 years! It would not have been possible without the commitment and energy that everyone brought to the weekend.

Other types of screenings in both venues include Parent & Baby, Silver Screen, Open Caption, and Sensory.
